Department of Oncology

Gilead Sciences recently opened the Oncology Request for Proposal (RFP) Program, a program that supports academic institutions, clinical researchers, and research networks internationally to evaluate the best approaches to advance research and development in the areas of non-small cell lung cancer, upper gastrointestinal tract cancers, and gynecologic cancers.

Project proposals should include, where appropriate:

• Prospective/interventional signal seeking or proof-of-concept clinical trials
• Patient involvement in study/protocol planning and design
• Incorporation of biomarkers with sample collection and translational research objectives
• Clear scientific objectives and endpoints based on sound scientific hypotheses
• Appropriate, defined and specific data collection and evaluation methods
• Incorporation into the clinical trial of a clear plan to ensure diversity and methods to capture the patient's voice
• Clear and defined timelines for project initiation, enrollment, and publication
• Plan to involve junior investigators in the study team, as they are underrepresented in scientific research and medicine

Priority will be given to multicenter proposals.

Key Dates:

• July 31, 2024 : deadline for submission of a letter of intent (LOI) in the G.Optics portal. It is imperative that all submissions are discussed with a Gilead Italy Medical Directorate contact person prior to submission.
• October 18, 2024: all LOI submitters will receive feedback and some applicants will be invited to submit a full application, including a detailed financial statement
• November 15, 2024: deadline for submitting the application in its complete version
• By the end of December 2024, applicants will receive feedback on submitted applications
